Over the course of the show, audiences saw eliminations, betrayals, serious side-eye, and a memorable moment that pierced all suspense.

However on the final evening, the ultimate victor of the first celebrity edition was revealed.

From 19 contestants, just a handful were left standing: Deceivers and loyal players facing off for the prize.

Soon, the field narrowed to just three: the remaining contestants.

Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a shocking result that went viral and left him emotional.

"It's been tearing me apart, my apologies," he declared, revealing to the remaining faithfuls that he'd always been a traitor. "I feel terrible about this."

"You did brilliantly," they consoled him. "It's all right."

Social media immediately exploded with the news. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," commented a viewer.

"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," stated a different person, while someone else described it as "the TV moment of the year."

His chosen charity, a cancer charity, will receive the entire winnings, with the final pot reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.

Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to strategic player was among the most memorable aspects of the season.

However, his victory still left the nation surprised, as noted by industry observers.

"The idea of Alan, among everyone, pulling off an expert performance in deception felt just as probable as him maintaining a straight face through one of his own punchlines."

On subsequent discussions, fellow players summed up the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.

"He might have come down to breakfast in a green cloak and I still wouldn't have thought he was deceiving us. His humor distracted me," a player said.

As ever, the comedian gave us unforgettable quotes.

"To be honest, I began the competition a bit of a nervous wreck. I've betrayed some really good friends under the bus, I've eliminated beloved figures openly. Apparently I'm a better liar and traitor than I believed."

Meanwhile, a different player noted that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than competing with England", while another said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.

In the beginning in the episode, several players seemed to be attempting to become the fashion standout of the competition, taking over from an earlier departed style leader.

The winner appeared at breakfast resembling a 1950s US chat show host in patterned burgundy attire, before changing into a bejewelled white suit.

However, he got outstyled by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. Impressive style.

Following this was the competition, with the remaining contestants boarding a locomotive called - of course - The Deceivers' Railway.

The challenge saw them destroying portraits of eliminated players. Have sympathy for one participant who managed to get hit in the head multiple times by the cover of a heavy wooden box.

Soon after, the moment arrived for the roundtable.

The deceivers made a pact in advance, pledging to stick together. "We've come a long way, I won't throw him under a bus," said a player, while their partner simply laughed.

However, one adhered to their agreement. But, having slipped under the radar for the majority of the competition, the other still received the majority elimination votes.

The last deceiver looked like to be experiencing a world of pain to be the final deceiver remaining. "Now I'm on my own, I feel terrified," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."

Social media and onlookers were similarly upset.

"I hoped against that player to be banished. An endearing deceiver," commented a commentator.

"Your legacy will remain in Traitors history," wrote another user.

But there was little opportunity to dwell on this departure. Soon, they were at the endgame - this being the moment everyone anticipated.

The final four stood over the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, precisely when it mattered the most, in a truly WTF moment.

A player was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their partner, who turned against them.

"It hurts to be betrayed last minute in that manner," remarked the eliminated player. Later, it was revealed that when they message, the eliminated contestant refers to their former ally as a traitor.

Finally, just three players were still competing: the final trio.

One player, appearing quite pleased, chose to conclude the game. The same decision was made by a different player, and it all came down to the third, who made the identical choice - which meant that the traitor emerged victorious.

For observers, the moment where the other players comforted the winner was "compelling television". "I anticipate it will be in the running for outstanding scene at television honors," they said.

Fortunately, the winner quickly regained composure from his emotional outburst, and could finally appreciate his victory.

"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, my expressions gave me away and now I stand the champion," he said.

He also joked about the memorable elimination - his best friend during the initial stages - by reaching over the presenter in the final scene and touching her cheek.

"You've got something on your face," he said, with his characteristic laugh.

The recent episodes of famous people scheming, plotting and the occasional unexpected moments may seem like a bizarre fantasy. Yet it actually occur. It will be remembered fondly.
