Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and ongoing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity in the area of the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is uncertain and the United States has not commented.
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations associated with the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," the statement continued.
The statement noted debris landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some structural damage and killing a civilian.
The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
