Jennifer Lawrence Expresses Mentioning Donald Trump Would ‘Intensify Divisions’ Dividing the Nation Apart

Lawrence has expressed that she believes it's no longer suitable to speak out countering the Trump government, fearing it could worsen polarizing arguments and deepen rifts within the country.

‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Notes Lawrence

Speaking with media, the Oscar winner reflected, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I thought I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But experience has shown, over multiple voting cycles, public figures have no real impact whatsoever on electoral choices.”

She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to heighten conflict that’s ripping the country apart.”

Political Evolution

Lawrence has admitted freely about supporting Republican and Democratic presidential nominees over the years. Growing up with conservative Republicans in her home state, she supported the Republican nominee in 2008 before joining the Democratic party and explaining she realized during President Obama’s term that backing conservatives was undermining her individual liberties as a female citizen.

Previous Comments

Several years ago, she commented that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a catastrophic event” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “as I believe she’s a strong contender and I know that she will take all necessary steps to protect reproductive rights.”

Celebrity Views

Jennifer Lawrence was joined by numerous celebrities in her disapproval of Donald Trump as a presidential contender, but the lack of leverage celebrities have over the voting intentions was underscored by the outcome.

“Another four years seems distinct,” commented she of Trump’s presidency. “Because he made his plans clear. We were aware of his actions for four years. He was transparent. And that’s what we chose.”

New Release

Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting her new film, Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she portrays a new mother who struggles with her psychological well-being in the countryside. Speaking at a media event for the film in Venice, she addressed the situation in the Middle East: “I’m terrified. It’s mortifying. What’s occurring is no less than a atrocity and it’s horrible.”

Additional Thoughts

Lawrence added by stating that she was disheartened by “the hostility in the discussions of the political landscape right now and how that is going to be accepted to the children right now. It’s going to be normal to them that elected officials deceive.”

She sought to redirect frustration about the conflict to policymakers rather than celebrities. “Stay focused on those accountable,” she said, in what many took to be a nod to the then-recent pledge endorsed by more than 4,000 Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with certain cultural organizations.

Personal Connections

Lawrence, who won an Oscar early in her career for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, is generating Oscar buzz for her portrayal in the new film. Although Lynne Ramsay has denied the plot being seen as one of postpartum depression and psychosis, Lawrence revealed that she identified with elements of her role’s experience after the delivery of her youngest child, shortly after production wrapped.

“It was fear regarding my baby,” she explained, “imagining every negative outcome, and then questioning everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I got on a medication called the prescription and I used it for 14 days and it was effective.”

Professional Experiences

The actor also spoke regarding the empowering aspect of filming without clothes in the project while she was some months pregnant and limited physically.

“There’s a freedom,” she said, of being forced to cast off vanity. “Honestly, I sometimes think where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
