Miami scored 86 first-half points against the Memphis Grizzlies

The Heat secured a crushing 146-114 victory over the Grizzlies in their initial NBA game after player Terry Rozier was arrested for suspected illegal sports betting.

Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups was also detained in connection with a sweeping FBI investigation into sports betting. Both men contest the allegations.

But, the Heat were focused as they recorded eighty-six first-half points to be ahead of Memphis by thirty-nine at halftime, the largest halftime lead in the team's 37-year history.

Adebayo led the way with twenty-four scores and afterwards stated Rozier had the team's full backing.

"We support him. Full support," Bam said. "You support him through and through. That's our brother at the end of the day."

Heat coach Spoelstra added: "Terry is a person who is important to everyone. He's had a beneficial influence on our locker room.

"We send our thoughts and our care for him as he faces the situation."

The Trail Blazers additionally secured their initial match after the arrests, with Brazil-born Tiago Splitter taking over as temporary head coach in Chauncey's non-attendance and leading the squad to a decisive 139-119 win over the Warriors.

"Everyone experienced great experiences with Billups and how he coached," Splitter said. "We're thinking of him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver 'Disturbed' over Recent Events

Addressing the detentions for the initial occasion, NBA commissioner Adam Silver stated he was "very upset" by the incidents of the recent days.

"Nothing is more critical to the league and supporters than the integrity of the competition," he told a broadcaster. "And so I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."

The commissioner also said an league probe into the player's conduct in spring 2023, when there was "aberrational betting" in a match he played for the Charlotte Hornets against the Pelicans, discovered no wrongdoing.

"It was brought to our attention by the authorities and the betting companies," he continued.

"We then looked into the matter and were open about it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, frankly, found no evidence.

"Federal authorities has legal authority... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can take various actions that the league office is unable to.

"Therefore, we've been cooperating from that point. And, of course, what they revealed recently was an indictment.

"Moreover 30 months later, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in justice to Rozier.

"Obviously, it doesn't look good, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance here between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."

In other games, Lakers star Doncic scored more than 40 scores for the consecutive match in a row to begin the campaign.

Following scoring 43 scores in a first defeat to the Warriors, the Slovenian achieved 49 points - along with 11 rebounds and 8 assists - as the Lakers beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 128 to 110.

Greek player Antetokounmpo also had a big night with 31 scores, 20 boards and seven passes in the Milwaukee Bucks' 122-116 win over the Toronto Raptors.

Houston Rockets were beaten 115 to 111 by the Pistons even with 37 scores from Kevin Durant, while Victor Wembanyama had 29 points, 11 boards and nine rejections in the Spurs' extra-time victory over the New Orleans.
