Air travel have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport following a substantial technical issue at the control tower halted all operations.

All incoming and outgoing flights were stopped due to an technical fault that arose around 08:30.

Some passengers were left waiting in jets at the stand during the disruption.

Operations Restart with Continued Disruption

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".

Nonetheless, significant disruption are likely to affect schedules. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been cancelled, with numerous other services facing hold-ups.

An airport representative had initially projected that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for the most up-to-date details on their specific flights," the statement added.

Source of the Issue

The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Passengers should still plan to confirm the details of their journey before traveling to the terminal as backlogs are managed.
