Patrick Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Wilder

The striker is now a member of the Championship side only half a year after starting insulting songs directed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, a free agent since leaving Leeds United, has agreed to a deal joining the second-tier club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's seven-year spell with Leeds was ended through agreement in August.

Among Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting abusive songs about Wilder amid Leeds' success festivities in April. Now, the former England international is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.

Previous Conflict Between Bamford and Wilder

Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion while Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

Everything seems to have been put behind them with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost in attack while Bamford looking to revive his career.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.

Wilder stated at the time: “Spoke with Pat recently and I’ve no issue at all with that. I'm uncertain regarding the words used from a fellow pro! However I valued and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke too and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that’s part and parcel of the game across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I have no problem at all. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”

Latest Playing Struggles

Bamford made 18 appearances for Leeds in the previous campaign however the former Forest, Chelsea and Boro striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
