Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
